The government is restructuring and modernizing the Kenya Meat Commission's Athi River plant to ensure efficiency and maximum production.

This is according to Fred Segor, the Principal Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, who said these, were intended to solve challenges that had for decades hit the commission once and for all.

"We are on course as far as restructuring and modernisation of KMC is concerned to strike a balance before the end of February next year for efficiency and maximum production," said Segor.

Segor said the ministry was working together with Kenya School of Government on Human Resource Strategic Plan to be adapted and implemented by the commission to ensure professionalism and effective service delivery.

The secretary, who addressed the journalists at the plant's compound in Athi River on Monday evening shortly after meeting the employees who were on strike, in company of KMC Acting Managing Commissioner, J.K Tendwa, said workers had agreed to return to work on Tuesday.

He said the employees had been paid their November salaries, and that the ministry was working on their gratitude payments, which they would receive soon.

Segor assured Kenyans and all Kenya Meat Commission workers and stakeholders across the nation and beyond that the ministry had contained the situation, everything would be alright and the plant will be effectively up and running by early next year.
