This week has been characterized by a lot of drama following the return of lawyer Miguna Miguna who caused unnecessary chaos at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). For starters, Miguna moved to court after being denied entry into the country. He wanted unconditional return to the country following his deportation back in February over his Kenyan identity crisis.
After the government allowed him in the country, all Miguna was supposed to do when he arrived at JKIA was to hand over his Canadian Passport for stamping as required by International law. He refused to do so and instead choose to throw tantrums! The courts however ordered that Miguna be allowed into the country without adherence to immigration procedures; a court order that was disobeyed by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnett and Immmigration PS Gordon Kihalangwa.
The three state officials also later defied another order requiring them to appear before the court, something which is commendable. The court cannot be used in promoting illegalities in the name of rule of law. By failing to present his travel documents, the outspoken activist was breaking the law. By moving to court, Miguna was misusing the court process, creating unnecessary drama and attention meant to resurrect his dead political ambitions.
According to government records, Miguna applied for Canadian citizenship when Kenya was still under the old constitution which did not allow dual citizenship. As such, Miguna automatically lost his Kenyan citizenship. Now that the new constitution allows dual citizenship, it was for the drama King to apply to be Kenyan. That is all the government has been asking. But as a political scavenger, Miguna wants to blackmail the government and enter Kenya without following the law.
The holy bible, which Miguna must have read as a kid in Magina village where he attended Sunday school teaches us to live by the sword and die by the sword. How can he expect the government to respect the same law he breaks? Also, Miguna has declared total war on the government. He has vowed to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are removed from power.
Any man who declares ‘war’ on a legitimate government of the people must face the wrath of the instruments of power.Overthrowing a legitimate government is usurping the people’s will. The government has the mandate to protect its citizens.A man whose only blessing is a loose tongue should be dealt with accordingly, and like a spoilt kid, he needs to be kept away.
After all the law is an ass! It is high time our courts and the likes of Justice George Odunga declared their position: whether they are conspiring with criminals or standing with the people of Kenya. And by the way, when it comes to the well being of the people, breaking a few laws would not hurt much!
