The national government has set aside Sh9 billion in the 2015/2016 budget for the construction of Yatta super dam in Machakos County.
Speaking in Sofia market on Tuesday, Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi said that the construction of the dam will help end water problem in the area.
“The Kenyan government has set aside Sh9 billion, the money is coming here to construct the Yatta super dam, the money will help distribute water to Ndalani, Yatta, Kithendu, Matuu and other places of our constituency,” Mwangangi said.
Mwangangi said this when he visited Sofia to assess the Yianguni water project which is been funded by CDF in the area.
The Yianguni water project is among other water projects Mwangangi has initiated in the constituency to end water problems in the area.
Either talking in the same forum one resident has called on the MP to disband the committee that is overseeing the project for it was not democratically appointed.
The residents also urge that the area residents be allowed to choose the committee that will oversee the project after the current one is disbanded.
“May that committee be disbanded because it was not democratically appointed; it was appointed by one person.”
Mwangangi has either promised the residents that he will look into the committee and address their grievances as soon as possible.
