Schools across Kisii South sub-county are now set to be connected to electricity in the next three months.
According to Kisii county quality assurance and standards officer Samson Ngariba, they have been in the dark for a while and it’s high time they got some electricity to spearhead the education sector in the area.
Speaking when he visited Nyasagati primary school, the officer said that they are looking forward to improving the performance of schools in the area.
He said they have already received reports that some of the schools are facing connectivity challenges and had no title deeds.
He said they are set to liaise with the Ministry of lands and Kenya Power and Lighting Company to fast-track the process.
“The Digital Literacy Programme is being implemented through a multi-agency approach that consists the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the National Treasury and the office of the Attorney General and that's why we want them to have power,” said Ngariba.
Early this week, Education PS, Belio Kipsang announced that the Digital Literacy Programme recently launched in 150 primary schools would be fully rolled out this year.
The programme targets all standard one pupils in all public primary schools who he said will all be issued with tablets by June this year.
The project is a pledge made by the Jubilee government during the 2013 election campaigns.
