The national government has set aside Sh3.4 billion to cater for examination fees for students in public schools preparing for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations next year.

Speaking when he rereleased the 2015 KCPE results, Matiang’i said that the government move to waive national examination fees was meant to allow more candidates to sit for examinations.

The CS said the government is committed to improve education adding that more programmes to support national examination candidates will be initiated.

“The government has increased the examination waiver fees for from Sh2.9 billion to Sh3.4 billion next year,” said the Education CS.

Matiang’i said that the number of pupils registering for national examination has tremendously increased over the two years.

The CS warned school heads who demand registration examination registration fees stating that their days are numbered.

He also asked parents to reports school heads who will demand any registration fees from them.

Meanwhile, the CS has asked school heads in public schools to adhere to the school fee structure guidelines.

The CS warned that school heads who charge exorbitant fees will be dealt with.

The Education said that he will give guidelines on school fees structures for all public schools next week when he expected to meet with the private school stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua has urged the government to devise proper ways of curbing examination irregularities.

Speaking at Juja town on Wednesday, Munyua said that rising examination irregularities is a serious issue in the education sector.

“It is worrying that every year we have so many cases of irregularities, the government and stakeholders in the education sector should devise proper mechanisms to address the problem,” he said.
