The Kiambu county Liquor regulation chairlady madam Chania Gladys has urged the county government of to help parents with children affected with drug and substance abuse in raising money to pay their medical rehabilitation bill.

Chania said that many children are neglected by parents because of the huge amount of money they are supposed to pay to settle the hospital bills for rehabilitation which she says some family ant afford raise the bill.

“We see many children in our street beyond repair because of drug abuse not because they want to but because their parents can’t afford to pay the rehabilitation bill,” she said.

She said that the minimum amount of fee a single therapy sum up to a total of Kshs. 90,000 in three months that complete the therapy and medication.

Madam expressed her concerns over increase number of drug abuse in Kiambu and she alleges that most school children are the most affected due to peer pressure and thus get addicted at a very tender age.

“Most of the affected children are either in school or school drop outs and this is because of the peer pressure,” Chania stated

The chairlady stated that the county government should set up strategies to help the parents who cannot afford to cater for their children’s medication bill to be rehabilitated to undergo transformation.

She said that Kenyan have not yet accepted the misuse of drug and substance abuse as a national catastrophe thus parents are left to settle the bills on their own.

Madam Chania was speaking on Tuesday in her office in Thika town where she hosted journalists.
