The government should shut down internet and block social media sites during national examinations period to reduce cases of exam leakage and cheating.
My attention was drawn to an article published in the Saturday Nation, July 23 under the title, "Elegy for S. Sudan: Diary of stranded journalist trying to get back home."
The article was written by Richard Sultan, a South Sudanese journalist who was stranded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Richard narrates how the Ethiopian government blocked social media and all internet access nationwide because their pupils were sitting examinations and the shutting down of internet was to prevent exam leakage. In Kenya, exams are leaked majorly through social media sites like Facebook and Whatsapp.
The Kenyan government should follow in the steps of Ethiopia to end this exam cheating once and for all. Granted, many online businesses will be affected but it is for the good of our country. We can start by experimenting on KCPE then KCSE.
