The government on Tuesday signed a Sh23 billion loan with China Exim Bank for the construction of the Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui road.

According to National Treasury CS Henry Rotich the construction will cost Sh 23 billion and will be financed by the Exim bank of China.

The construction will be done by Chinese firm sinohydro. The 192 Km road is the first phase of a 472 km road. The second phase will cover Kitui to Kanduta through Mwingi and phase three Kanduya to Usueni.

The total construction will be Sh 50 billion. "The government is committed to ensuring construction is done to transform Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties and eventually link Garissa to Moyale," said treasury CS Henry Rotich during the signing. 

Present in the signing ceremony were Jubilee affiliated legislators Kisoi Munyao of Mbooni, Joe Mutambu of Mwingi North, Former Kibwezi Mp Kalembe Ndile among others.
