According to Kisumu senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, ID issuance in the county is slow.

The senator said that eligible youth who had applied for IDs in December last year before the recent voter registration exercise had not received their IDs up to date.

Nyong’o alleged that the delay could be a trick by the Jubilee government to lock out youths in the 2017 general elections.

“The Jubilee government must come clean and explain to us why it taking too long for youths in Kisumu to get IDs,” he said.

Nyong’o observed that many youths were locked out in the voter registration exercise that was conducted in February and March.

He said that the plot by the government to allegedly lock out youths in voting will not be taken lightly.

The Kisumu senator indicated  that every eligible youth has a right to get the ID or any other document as provided for in law.

Nyong’o urged leaders in the area and across the country to rally behind youths to register for IDs.

He said that move will see them (youths) take part in the forthcoming general elections and elect leaders who will champion for the rights and welfare.
