The government has denied killing 300 cows in Laikipia as has been spreading in the media.

Instead, the state has said that only 70 cows were killed in the gun battle 'between security officers and bandits'.

While addressing journalists, Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe said they have launched investigations into what transpired and will also check on whether or not all the bullets found in the animals belonged to police or other parties as well.

“The government is aware of some of the challenges Kenyans are facing, notwithstanding that explanations have been given on the Laikipia shooting of 70 animals between police and herders who invaded private land," he said.

"The government will carry thorough investigations to find out whether the bullets that killed the livestock belong to police or there were other mischievous players, “said Kiraithe.

Maasai and Samburu leaders have demanded full compensation from the government and accused the state of economically discriminating and sabotaging the Maasai.
