A Member of Parliament allied to the opposition NASA has sued the government over its decision to withdraw Raila Odinga’s security.
According to Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita, the Government's move is a plan to intimidate Odinga and NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.
The lawmaker cited that the withdrawal came soon after the NASA leaders called for countrywide protests
"Mr Nyamita is reasonably apprehensive that there is an unrelenting and malevolent effort of some State actors to intimidate Mr Odinga into submission as well as preventing him from engaging in peaceful demonstrations or other rallies for fear of his life by withdrawing his lawful security," argued Mr Nyamita's through lawyer, Esther Ang’awa.
Nyamita further stated that the government has ignored calls to reinstate the bodyguards despite the glaring risk to the NASA leaders' lives.
"To date, Mr Odinga’s security detail remains withdrawn without lawful cause in spite of numerous calls for reinstatement thereby exposing him to all manner of danger including the risk of assassination," Ms Ang'awa added.
