The government has called on farmers in areas infested with army worms to be patient as it looks for mechanisms to address the same.
Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett said he has met partners with whom the government is working with to identify areas in which to set up the traps.
He added that an agreement was reached on the need to fast track the process so as not to cause further harm.
“I would have wished the traps have been distributed very fast but the issue was the identification of the place where the traps were to be placed. But we need to fast track the process,” he said.
“The traps are meant to help identify areas prone to army worms infestation as an early warning to farmers, more effort actually need to be put so as to ensure the traps are set up in time," he added.
The CS also revealed that during the drought season, there was a deficiency of 9000 metric tones of powder milk and after processors were given the green light to import, they only managed to import 6000 metric tones.
Considering that rains have improved and milk production increased, the CS said that there was no need for processors to import more powder milk unless they will need it in future.
