Environment and Natural Resources Cs Judi Wakhungu has said the Kenya is committed to supporting the United Nations Environment Program's ambition to achieve a pollution free environment. 

According to Wakhungu, the government will provide leadership on reducing air pollution by adopting of mitigating strategies. 

"We are ready to support UN and its plans to maintain Nairobi's position as the central hub of the UNEP because Kenya recognizes leadership of sustainable management of the environment", she said. 

Wakhungu addressing the press at Harambee House on Friday assured that Kenya will implement  measures and policies aimed at eradicating air pollution. 

Recently, the government banned the use of plastic bags in a move to curb some of the causes of pollution. 

The ban took effect after the High court declined an application by Kenya Association of Manufacturers to stop the ban.

Wakhungu said the ban has been effective and so far about 60 arrests have been made. 

She added that more efforts have been put in place to ensure strict compliance with the set rules.

"The ban of plastic bags has been effective across the country despite the few people who are going against the law", noted the Cs.

Wakhungu urged Kenyans to improve on garbage disposal to keep the working and living environment clean.
