Transport Principal Secretary (PS) Irungu Nyakera has said the government will offer help to families who lost their loved ones in the Naivasha canter explosion.
In an Interview on NTV Sunday night, Nyakera said the government will pay for the deceased's funeral arrangements as well as offer counseling services to their friends and families.
“The government has transported the bodies of those killed in the Naivasha accident to Chiromo and we will also offer counseling services to families and friends who lost their loved ones,” said Nyakera.
“We are also putting in place plans to help families with funeral arrangements,” he added.
The PS also assured motorists that they will soon put up road signs in areas where there are bumps to avoid such incidents in the future.
“What happened was tragic but we cannot apportion blame because no laws were broken. Probable the driver of the canter did not understand the road very well, or maybe he was intoxicated, we do not know at this point,” said Nyakera.
The accident is said to have occurred after a Uganda-bound canter ferrying inflammable materials lost control and rammed into several vehicles before exploding into flames.
At least 40 people, including 11 General Service Unit (GSU) officers, attached to State House, lost their lives in the tragedy.
