The Garissa County police commander, James Kianda has said that a disarmament exercise will take place in Garissa County that will see all unregistered weapons confiscated and surrendered to the relevant authorities.
He said that a disarmament exercise will take place in the county in the next two months.
The exercise is aimed at helping solve inter-clan battles after the recent clashes among the Balambala and Lagdera clans took place and led to the death of two people and more than 170 families displaced from their homes with property of an unknown amount being destroyed.
He said the culprits who were involved in the clashes have already been arrested and will be arraigned in court while the police continue to carry out investigations.
Kianda urged all the people holding unlicensed weapons to report to the relevant authorities’ and hand them in for registration so that peace may prevail.
The police commander was speaking during the flagging of the humanitarian and donations from the Kenya Red Cross and UNICEF in the county.
