The government is currently carrying out a national Oral Health campaign in the country.
Cabinet Secretary for health Dr James Macharia said the survey will enable the government to support early detection and provide treatment programs for oral diseases and conditions in the country.
The CS noted that the survey will also provide information needed on the effects of oral diseases and disabilities amongst Kenyans.
In a speech read on his behalf by Naivasha deputy county commissioner Abraham Kemboi during this year's World Oral health day celebrated at Milimani primary school on Tuesday in Naivasha, Dr Macharia attributed unhealthy practices as one of the leading causes of oral cancer and fatal rheumatic heart diseases in the country.
According to the CS some of the unhealthy lifestyles that have lead to poor oral health include unhealthy diet, tobacco and alcohol consumption.
He reiterated the government commitment of ensuring all Kenyans are orally healthy saying that this will increases their productivity.
He said Community Oral Health officers (COHOs) in the country have been posted in all community dispensaries to assist in the prevention, promotion, and treatment of common oral diseases and conditions.
At the same time he revealed that oral health has been included in the community health workers curriculum to equip them with skills in the prevention of the diseases .
