The government has unveiled plans to tarmac the first road in Mwakirunge, Kisauni Constituency.The construction of the new road is expected to not only ease congestion along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway but also stir economic development in the area.The project will see the Mshomoroni Mwisho wa Lami-Mwakirunge road and Bamburi Nature Trail-Hussein dairy-Mwakirunge Centre roads tarmacked. The construction of the new roads will be a reprieve for residents who have in the past raised concerned over poor infrastructure in the constituency.The residents claimed that past regimes never showed interest in improving the infrastructure of the region, arguing that the sistuation has affected them in terms of development. Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo said there are plans to tarmac 27 kilometers of roads in the constituency. The roads are expected to open up the area for business upon completion as well as offer travellers with an alternative route to Kaloleni and Rabai in Kilifi County.Mbogo said he has held discussions with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho over the project which is expected to commence in two or three month.“A tender has been issued to a contractor and work will begin in the next two or three months,” said Mbogo, as quoted by the Star.
