The government has more to do to ensure the girl child welfare is looked into.
Nakuru County First Lady Lucia Mbugua said it is painful for the girl child to miss school due to lack of sanitary towels.
In a message read on her behalf by Nakuru county official Esther Kamau on Tuesday when distributing sanitary towels to various schools, Lucia Mbugua called on national and county governments to ensure the girl child welfare is considered.
She said special funds should be set up to ensure purchase of sanitary towels in schools.
"It is sad at this time for a girl child to miss school for lack of sanitary towels and I appeal to the national government to work closely with counties to ensure that is solved," she said.
The function saw Keringet Boarding Primary and Keringet Estate Primary girls receive sanitary towels.
