The national government has announced plans to set up new 70 polytechnics across the country by the end of next year, Education Permanent Secretary Colleta Suda has said.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu Town on Saturday, the Education PS said that adequate funds have been set up for the project.
She said that the government intends to establish at least two polytechnics centres in every constituency across the country.
The PS indicated that the move is meant to improve on the quality of tertiary education.
“We have in place plans to establish 70 new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres before the end of next year,” she said.
The PS said that the national government will work closely with counties to ensure success of the project.
She also announced plans to renovate and upgrade existing tertiary institutions.
The Education PS said that establishment of more vocational centres will provide an opportunity for many youths to tap their talents and acquired skills that is much needed in the job industry.
