The national government has set aside funds to build Technical Training Institutions (TTIs) in every constituency across the county in a bid to making education affordable and accessible, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
Speaking at Daystar University Athi River Campus in Machakos County when he presided over the varsity’s 37th Graduation ceremony on Saturday, Ruto said that the national government will partner with county governments to have TTIs in every constituency.
He said that the move is part of the national government plans to boost education in the country.
The Deputy President further observed that many students who fail to get the university entry pass mark will be enrolled in TTIs.
“The national government seeks to establish at least one TTI in every constituency across the country by 2017,” said Ruto.
The DP said that consultations are underway between the government and stakeholders on how to approach the project.
Ruto also announced government plans to recruit more teachers in the 2015-2016 Financial Year, saying the current deficit of teachers has lowered education level.
“We intend to recruit more teachers both in primary and secondary schools so that our education level can meet the international set standards,” he said.
