Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry has stated that the government will ensure that students studying in Garissa University are ferried back to their homes as soon as possible.
Speaking on Thursday during a press address outside his office in Nairobi, Nkaissery assured that despite the unfortunate state of insecurity, the government is concerned about the citizens and doing its best to salvage the situation.
He stated that the government has put in place plans to provide secure transportation of the students to their homes as the school is closed indefinitely.
“A section of National youth service (NYS), the Kenya Air force and police planes will be providing secure evacuation for our students to Nairobi so that they reach home safely,” said Nkaiserry.
Nkaissery assured that the government is available to take on the issue of insecurity.
This comes even as the numbers of those who have lost their lives during the attack reach 147, in a university that holds a population of 815 students and 60 staff members.
It is one of the worst terror attacks witnessed in the country’s history, after the Westgate Shopping mall attack in Nairobi on September 2013 21, an attack that lasted for three days.
