The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has outlined plans on how to renovate the Mombasa-Garissa Highway.

According to a paid advertisement from the authority published on the local dailies on Monday, KeNHA Director General Peter Mundinia said that plans for the facelift of the road from Malindi are underway.

Some of the towns to benefit from the refurbishment of the highway are among others Garsen, Madogo in Tana River County as transport between the two towns is expected to be boosted than ever before.

Mundinia, in the advert, said that KeNHA will hold a consultative meeting with transport stakeholders and the members of the public from the area in February to provide an opportunity to reach a consensus on adopting sustainable measures for the project.

“The meetings will be held on a daily basis from Monday, February 5 to Saturday, February 10, 2018, in Madogo, Bura, Hola, Garsen, Ganda and Malindi from consecutively," reads the advert signed by Mundinia.

He urged all the stakeholders to take part in the scheduled meetings adding that the World Bank is preparing all of the required paperwork prior to the onset of the project.

“The Government of Kenya with support from the World Bank through its implementing agency, KeNHA, is preparing documentation for the upgrading of the Malindi-Garsen-Hola-Madogo section of the Mombasa-Garissa Road,” he added.

The by-pass through Ganda is expected to avoid Malindi Town where the highway is narrow with expensive buildings on both sides.
