President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the government will raise funds to enable the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to continue with the mass voter registration exercise.

The President said it is the right of every Kenyan to vote and the process should go on until everyone who is eligible is registered.

He made the announcement on Wednesday when he toured Baringo and Nakuru counties to launch water and road projects.

IEBC recently undertook a voter registration exercise but the process ended on Tuesday.

“We will raise extra money so that IEBC can continue with the registration process until all eligible Kenyans are registered,” the President said at Makutano junction.

He also directed the Internal Security Ministry to ensure all Kenyans who have reached the age of 18 get their National Identification cards.

He also said the Registrar of Persons should not use draconian rules that deny many genuine applicants National Identification Cards including in some instances bringing prove about grandparents even when the applicant has an own birth certificate.

The President was accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, Governors Benjamin Cheboi (Baringo), Kinuthia Mbugua (Nakuru) and other senior leaders.
