The national government has promised to upscale water and food distribution in Mandera County.
This is after Governor Ali Roba with legislators, Eng Mohamud Mohamed Mandera West and Banisa MP Mohamed Aji Abdi received delegates from the national government.
The delegates included Water Cabinet CS Eugene Wamalwa, Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjiri and Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries counterpart Willy Bet.
Governor Roba said the timely approach was a result of state house visit on January 27 this year to plea with the president to address the drought situation in Mandera.
“The national government has promised to enhance food distribution for the next two months, and compliment the county government’s effort by increasing on water bowsers.” Stated Governor Roba.
He added that the county government will rehabilitate existing boreholes, construct large scale dams in each sub-county, fodder distribution and carry out livestock offtake programs countrywide.
He further stated that the national government will slaughter animals for local consumption to address the food shortage.
Ali added that in addition to the national government effort, he will upscale water tracking to remote areas and begin relief food distribution to vulnerable families in one week, fodder distribution to the pastoralists and mass livestock vaccination.
The governor re-affirmed his support for Jubilee Party.
“The residents have affirmed their political support for the two Jubilee principals, Mandera elected leaders and Jubilee Party,” said Roba.
