Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i will form a special security unit to investigate an incident where a pastor was kidnapped from Suneka, Bonchari in Kisii County, and has been missing for the past four weeks.
The CS also sent a stern warning to lazy security officials who condoned criminality in their areas of jurisdiction saying the rising insecurity levels in the areas will not be tolerated in any part of the country.
Addressing a gathering at Mwongori High School in Borabu sub-county, Nyamira County, Dr. Matiang’i decried the rising insecurity levels in Kisii and Nyamira counties and declared such bosses will face a sack.
In the Suneka incident, Pastor Esther Bochaberi is said to have been abducted from her house in Bokeire village on the night of March 11, 2018, and disappeared since then.
“The government Is stepping up investigations into the incident and other insecurity issues in the country through the Director of Criminal Investigations,” said Matiangi’
While sending a strong warning to suspected criminals, the Interior CS said, "you can run but you cannot hide. We will smoke you out."
Friends and relatives to the missing pastor said the missing pastor was involved in a land tussle with her neighbor who works at Kisii County government.
Mr. Joseph Oyugi, husband to the missing pastor said they had searched for her in vain.
At least three houses belonging to the suspected kidnappers were torched by Suneka residents during Easter weekend.
Pastors in the region castigated security officers for doing little to help find the missing Pastor Esther Bochaberi Oyugi who was abducted from her home three weeks ago.
Five suspects among them a chief who has since been interdicted were arrested and charged at Kisii law courts in relation to the kidnapping.
