The Government has moved to address youth unemployment in the country.
According to Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie, this will be achieved through the launch of an online portal linking job seekers to existing employment.
Kenya Labour Market Information System (KLMIS), Kandie said, is an ambitious programme that ensures the skills development system is relevant and responsive to the needs of the industry.
"The portal links job seekers to employment and internship opportunities within their counties and the country," she said.
The platform was started in July and is expected to be fully launched in March next year.
The CS said the country lacks comprehensive skills inventory which impacted negatively on the level and quality of skills development.
"Although Kenya's labour productivity is higher than average compared to its neighbours, we have to resolve the skills mismatch, which has been a challenge," she said as quoted by Saturday Nation.
"There has been disharmony between the country's national aspirations and the training systems," the CS added.
Kandie was speaking to journalists in her Nairobi office on Friday.
She regretted the country's education and training system was driven by social demands as opposed to labour market demands.
"The distribution of skills and industry trends are necessary for planning the country's training programmes," Kandie noted.
