Transport CS James Macharia said that interested private sector players have been invited to contribute in the construction of the highway.

He argued that the SGR and the 6-lane highway to be constructed will join Nairobi with the port of Mombasa and enhance easy transport between the two largest business hubs in Kenya.

"The construction of the SGR and the 6-lane highway will lead to improvement in the movement of goods and services," he said.

Speaking during the ‘Nairobi Stakeholders Business Luncheon’ hosted by Kenya Ports Authority recently, Macharia said the Lamu and Mombasa ports are an integral part of infrastructural development.

"The government will continue to expand the road infrastructure from the ports to the inland as it improves the cargo handling capacity of the ports. Soon the government will commission the SGR from the port of Mombasa to Nairobi," he added.
