Deputy President William Ruto has said the government will give National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) membership to recipients of the cash transfer stipend aged 65 years and above.

He said the programme to begin this year is aimed at enabling people in that age bracket to access good, affordable medical services around the country.

Ruto was speaking Saturday at Kinagoni village in Kinango, Kwale County during the funeral of Mama Rebecca Umazi Rai, mother of the MP for Kinango Gonzi Rai who died recently of cancer aged 81.

The Deputy President said the government was determined to stem the rise of lifestyle diseases like cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes in the country by equipping medical facilities in the country with the equipment that can enable early diagnosis of the diseases.
