Irrigation Principal Secretary Nduati Mwangi said that the country would record 10,000 acres under irrigation by December through the Galana irrigation scheme alone.

Speaking after touring various small-scale irrigation projects in Ihindu Naivasha,Nduati identified Mwea and Bura irrigation schemes as other upcoming major projects.

"We are still on course to achieving our target of one million acres in five years as we are currently doing 50,000 acres every year," Nduati said

He added that the Government was committed to going the Egypt and Sudan way in terms of irrigation as one way of addressing the issue of food security.

Paul Ndung'u who led area farmers praised the irrigation projects noting that it had helped them address the perennial issue of water shortage.
