The National government is in the process of coming up with regulations meant to face lift the retail sector in the country.
The move seeks to address increasing cases of suppliers not being paid by retailers, mainly the supermarkets.
According to the Trade Principle Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, the regulations are expected to have been developed by March 2018.
Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Dr. Kiptoo said the government was committed to ensuring smooth running of business in the retail sector.
"There has been issues of suppliers not being paid and this is partly because there is no law in retail sector to ensure that is done but as at now we've the National Trade Policy that allows to come up with those laws," Kiptoo said.
"All we are interested in is to ensure there are no more issues of suppliers not being paid by the retailers," he added.
The PS however called for the self regulation in the sector where suppliers and retailers agree to abide by the Code of Practise and ensure products are supplied as agreed and paid within the expected timeliness.
