The government through the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination is seeking to register all births done through midwifery across the country.
According to the Chief administrative secretary Ministry of Interior and National Coordination (CAS), Patrick Ntutu, the government will extend the 31st March birth registration attributable to challenges faced across various counties.
CAS Ntutu who was speaking in Narok on Sunday morning said the government will further streamline birth registration process across the country especially in the regions where traditional midwifery is still practiced.
“It has come to our attention that a lot of Kenyans are exploited when they try to get birth certificates for their newborns or their own. There is an influx of conmen who poise as the official from the registration of birth department in various regions of the country but their aim is to rip Kenyans off their hard-earned money,” said Ntutu.
Ntutu said that “enough security personnel has been deployed around the civil registrars’ offices to ensure that no Kenyan is swindled.”
The CAS assured that the government is doing everything possible to ensure that every Kenyan regardless of their locality are registered as citizens by birth at birth or later in time.
“The government is willing to extend the deadline to allow civil registrars have time to document those who have no birth records,” the CAS said.
One of the strategy by the ministry in achieving this goal, Ntutu said that “the government will increase the human resource capacity to speed up the registration process across the country.
