The government is committed to fully supporting the growth and development of the secretarial profession in the county.
This is according to Simon Angote, the acting secretary in charge of human resource development in the ministry of public service
Speaking when he graced the Kenya National Secretaries Association (KENASA) annual conference in Nakuru, Angote said the government has fully invested in the training of secretaries in the country citing the example of the National Youth Service training college which he said is churning out hundreds of top class secretaries.
He said in government circles the office secretaries are now referred to as office administrators, a title he said gives them the status and respect they deserve.
He added that the government has also developed career development guidelines for office administrative assistants to be able to rise to the level of deputy director adding that soon the guidelines will give them room to rise to the level of directors.
KENASA national chairperson Osumba Andrew said the association is drafting the secretaries’ professional bill 2018 which he said will help in streamlining the operations of the profession.
Osumba said that the bill if passed by parliament will help in aligning the association to other professional organizations
The bill is also expected to emphasis on the operations of the secretarial profession as well as paving way for the establishment of the secretaries’ training school
KENASA has 5500 members’ from both the private and public sectors.
