This is aimed at reducing air pollution as a result of carbon emissions from exhaust fumes.

This was reported by Environment Secretary Alice Kaundia at the UN Environment Assembly that was held in Nairobi on Saturday.

Mrs. Alice further disclosed that the government will ensure strict adherence to the requirements that only vehicles that have not been used for over eight years are allowed into the country."We are also strengthening the testing of vehicles to curb emissions. This will reduce the pollution and improve the quality of air that we breath," she said.

She revealed that the government in conjunction with strategic partners, such as the 119-member climate and clean air coalition, shall work together to see that pollution from vehicles will be greatly reduced.

The Environment Secretary called upon the county governments to take part in this important agenda saying that they have a role to play in ensuring the air people breathe is of good quality.
