The aim of this is to root out errant groups out to exploit the public.

Speaking in Kibera on Wednesday, the NGO chairperson, Fazul Mohammed issued that several organisations have sprouted in the slum area under the title of NGOs whereas they intention is to create wealth out of the needy slum population.

"We shall soon start to vet all non-profitable organizations operating in Kibera. A good number of them are operating illegally, and we shall catch them soon. There are people purporting as community volunteers but their work does not speak," Fazul said.

The NGO chair further added that even duly registered organisations operating in the are but do not meet the board expectations shall also have their licenses and certificates withdrawn from their database.

However, Shofco chair Kennedy Odede trashed Fazul's sentiments, stating that organisations working in the slums are doing their duties of humanitarian assistance well and need not be interrupted by the state.
