A lobby has called for the construction of an accident trauma centre at Salgaa blackspot.
St John Ambulance volunteers said the centre should be constructed at the section on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway which has been declared by NTSA as the most dangerous stretch in Kenya.
"There is a need for such a centre and a standby ambulance at the stretch before the government constructs the dual carriageway. Every time an accident occurs, we take victims to Nakuru Level Five Hospital," Solomon Bii told Daily Nation.
Another volunteer stationed at Sachang'wan, Ken Kitush, urged the Government to speed up construction of the trauma centre, observing that the once safest road has become a death trap for motorists.
"An agreement to establish a centre at Salgaa was reached during President Mwai Kibaki's regime but it was stalled when another one was built in Nakuru town," said Kitush.
More than 13 passengers have died at the 14km stretch in the last two weeks.
NTSA cite speed and failure to observe lane discipline as the major cause of accidents.
