Kiambu County women rep Ann Nyokabi Gatheca has called on the government to put measures in place to protect young girls from a new breed of 'bad boys'.
Allegedly this new breed co-habits with school girls and Gatheca warned parents against allowing their daughters to live with men who are not close relatives. She noted that defilement cases were on the rise in the area.
Speaking at Gikindu Girls during their school closing ceremony on Friday, Gatheca noted that the girl child is special in driving the society forward.
He challenged girls to be firm with their dignity and not to expose their bodies anyhow.
“Girls don’t be used as toilet papers; you have a future and a position to lead. Your body is precious. As you break for your fist term holiday this year, remember to read widely too,” she challenged them.
She challenged parents to ensure their girls are educated citing that the government has enough bursaries for the needy citing that no girl should miss her studies in the name of lack.
The leader noted that sex between school girls and ‘bad boys’ was on the surge rebuking the action which she said is unconstitutional.
She warned that punitive legal measures will also be taken against parents who opt to settle defilement cases of their girls out of court.
“Parents you also have to be firm otherwise we may lack future girl leaders if these sex pests are not contained immediately,” she said.
She gave revision books, writing materials and a tank to the girls’ school as a way of appreciating the girl child education.
