The Kisumu Parents Association Chairman Jackson Ogweno has warned parents against abusing their children during the teachers’ strike.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday, Ogweno said parents should not turn their children into hawkers to maximise on the time they are spending at home.
“This may interfere with their studies once they resume to classes. Parents should give children time to do their studies and not leave them to roam around,” said Ogweno.
He challenged the government to assure parents of their children's security if they go back to school.
“The government should not just tell us to take our children to school. They need to assure us of the children’s safety,” he said.
He wondered on what the law says about the government if it fails to fulfil its mandate.
“The law says that parents who fail to take their children to school should be arrested. What about the government which fails to provide education for its children,” posed Ogweno.
