Mombasa Catholic Arch Bishop Martin Kivuva has urged the national government to boost security across the country ahead of the August 8 general election.
In a media briefing in Mombasa on Sunday, the cleric said that security has to be guaranteed for peaceful polls.
He said that instances of insecurity being reported in some parts of the country especially Lamu are causing fear among Kenyans ahead of the polls.
Bishop Kivuva said that the government has a responsibility to ensure security of citizens before, during and after the general election.
“We are appealing to the national government to put in place proper security mechanisms that will ensure safety of Kenyans before, during and after the August general election," he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The Catholic Bishop at the same time urged politicians to exercise humility and tolerance.
He said that politicians have a duty to preach unity in their politician’s campaigns.
The Catholic Bishop said that rising political temperatures are not good for the country’s security.
“Politicians across the divide must tone down and embrace each other despite their different political ideologies and affiliations,” he said.
The Bishop at the same time called on Kenyans to embrace unity and pray for peaceful August 8 polls.
