The farmers said the river is highly polluted forcing them to stop using its water for irrigation.

They were led by their spokesman Muli Mutuki who said the government should clean the river and warn other counties against directing sewerage into it.

They addressed the press in Mwala on Friday.

“We are urging the government to move with speed and clean up the river before our farming activities are edged out,” Said Mutuki.

Mutuki urged Machakos and national governments to cooperate so as to stop the river's pollution.
