The cleric said this will be a way to tame the increasing cases of fire incidences.

Speaking in Garissa town, Kassim aired his concerns saying with the ongoing student unrests, it would turn tragic, especially if students began dying in the fires.

“The government should consider closing down schools until they get to the root course of these student unrests that we have experienced countrywide,” said Kassim.

He said it is regrettable that students are torching institutions to have their grievances responded to.

“It is unfortunate that the children are turning to torch buildings as a way of addressing their issues. It shows how we have lost track as a society,’’ said Kassim.

The cleric also called upon the government to conduct speedy investigations on the matter.

“It is high time the national government took responsibility and root out the cause of student unrests. It could be religious, political or social and we should not outlook any cause to help stem the problem,’’ he pointed out.
