The national government through the ministry of health has been urged to employ more nephrologists.
According to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital pediatrician Dr. Philip Cheptinga, the current number is a drop in the ocean.
"Government statics shows that over 1 million people in Kenya suffer from kidney disease yet we only have 40 nephrologists in the country, " he said at MTRH, Tuesday.
"We have 5 nephrologists for pediatrics in the whole country. It's hard for us to handle the increasing number of kidney patients, therefore, need to employ more nephrologists, " he added.
He, however, called upon Kenyans to always do exercises to prevent them from getting high blood pressure and obesity which is the major cause of kidney ailments.
"Let us at least walk for ten kilometers every morning this will help to remove the excess fats in our bodies," noted Cheptinga.
"Owning a vehicle is not a sign of richness and also walking is not a sign of being poor. Let us do some exercises because they are good for our bodies," he added.
