The Government has been urged to intervene and end the rising ethnic violence targeting the Kamba community living in Mwea and Taita Taveta counties.
Former Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama while addressing mourners in Matungulu constituency on the weekend said reports that Kamba community living in Mwea are being evicted from their homes were not only disturbing but also a big setback to national integration.
“The Government must immediately move in and intervene and ensure any Kenyan residing in that region enjoys their fundamental rights and freedoms as enshrined in the constitution,” Muthama said.
He said political differences must not cause ethnic animosity among Kenyans.
Muthama claimed several members of Kamba community living in Mwea in Embu County and others in Taita Taveta had been evicted from their homes and their land encroached into by persons referring them to as strangers.
“It is very shameful to hear such incidences happening in this day and age in full knowledge of the Government. As Kenyans we have resolved to coexist peacefully with each other and the Government has a duty to protect lives and property of all Kenyans,” Muthama added.
