The government has been challenged to honour the freedom fighters who fought for the independence of this country.
Speaking in Ruiru yesterday, a Kikuyu Council of Elders faction dubbed 'Kiama Kia Ma' speaking’, led by their leader Ndichu Njuguna, said that the freedom fighters have become tired of waiting to be honoured by the government they shed blood for.
“Freedom fighters who fought tirelessly to liberate this country from the shackles of colonialism have continued to live in abject poverty and die. There has been lip service one year after another with nothing to show for it,” said Njuguna.
He added: “Let us honour our freedom heroes once and for all and blessings will follow our country to the end.”
The elders warned that the country risks being 'cursed' if it continues to ignore its freedom heroes and heroines.
"Some of these challenges like terror, floods and diseases could be a punishment from God for our disregard of our heroes,” he added.
They also urged Kenyans to remain true to their cultures and avoid aping European countries.
