Nakuru Senator James Mungai has urged the national government to send medical experts on the ground to unravel the mysterious disease killing people in Nakuru County.
Mungai said the county government was overwhelmed by the disease hence the need for external assistance.
Six minors died in Nakuru East and Nakuru West, while two deaths were reported in Elburgon.
Two other minors who had been referred from Baringo County died at Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital (PGH) a week ago.
The most affected areas are Bahati and Engashura in Nakuru North, with 43 cases.
Many of the infected were treated at PGH.
The main symptoms of the disease are high fever, weakness, sweating and cough.
“I call upon the national government through the Ministry of Health to send medical experts on the ground to unravel this mysterious disease killing our people. Although health is a devolved function, our county government seems overwhelmed and therefore they require external assistance,” he said.
He said there was urgent need to address the 215 confirmed cases exhibiting similar symptoms.
He condoled the families of 23 minors who died after contracting the unknown disease.
“I send my deepest condolences to the families and especially to parents, their closer friends and neighbors. It must be extremely painful to suddenly lose young ones in such a sudden manner,” he said
