Speaking at a Kisii hotel on Thursday, a group of businesspeople from the town accused the supplying company, KPLC of ignoring their plea, despite constant reminders from them.

“We are really disgusted by KPLC. They are never proactive whenever they detect transmission problems. It is even worse when we call them and take several hours to rectify the situation,” said Benjamin Magiya, a business owner.

They said many businesses have suffered severe losses from the menace, and urged Governor James Ongwae-led government to intervene expeditiously to have the situation fixed.

“Some of the businesses relying on electricity have always suffered huge losses. We understand that they (KPLC) have done their best but it is not enough. We kindly ask the county government to help us solve the situation,” added Magiya.

Magiya attributed the problem to monopoly enjoyed by Kenya Power, and suggested that the government introduces an alternative company to make supplying of power more efficient.

“The actual reason to this predicament is the monopoly enjoyed by Kenya Power. If another company is introduced, then we would easily deal with this situation,” he said.

They were unanimous that the county leadership had the financial muscle to deal decisively with the problem to avoid losses incurred by business community.
