Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has urged Jubilee government to lower the prices of sugar and milk.

Makau says that prices of sugar, milk and other basic commodities are still high and majority of Kenyans cannot afford them.

Speaking in Athi River on Tuesday, the MP read mischief in the government's move to lower prices of maize floor living out milk and sugar.

“The government should have reduced prices for sugar and milk when it reduced the prices for maize floor,” he said as quoted by The Star.

The MP accused Jubilee government of exposing Kenyans to a harsh economy.

He said that majority of Kenyans cannot afford to put food on their tables because of the high cost of living.

The Mavoko MP blamed Jubilee government for the food crisis in the country accusing it of failing to crack down on cartels who allegedly create food shortages for their own financial interests.

He also hit out at Jubilee government food security policies saying they are pathetic. Makau said it is embarrassing for the government to import food when the country has the resources to feed its own citizens.

Jubilee government has been under criticism over high cost of living occasioned by high prices for basic commodities like maize floor, sugar and milk.

Prices for basic commodities have skyrocketed in the last five months. Last week, the government r reduced prices for maize floor from Sh150 to Sh90 per 2 Kilogram packet.

The government says that it is implementing measures that will lower the cost of living.

Jubilee leaders have warned opposition leaders against taking advantage of the situation to campaign for votes.
