Kikuyu council of Elders from Rift Valley has raised a red flag following numerous complaints about embezzlement of cash transfer funds meant for senior citizens in Nakuru County.
Chairman, Rift valley Kikuyu council of elders Gilbert Kabage Monday said that the government is losing millions of money since senior citizens are not getting the money yet, the government releases the funds.
He said that once the government releases the money to respective accounts, it ends up benefitting other people and not the old.
“There is a lot of corruption going on in this cash transfer programme and the government is losing a lot of money because the beneficiaries do not get the sh2000 set aside for their sustenance,” said Kabage.
He warned those embezzling the funds that they could be cursed for their insensitivity to the plight of the poor.
“They could get cursed because they are stealing what rightfully belongs to the old and these are people who do not even have the energy to work and earn a living,” he said.
He called upon the government to review the whole process of cash transfer program to seal loopholes through which millions of shillings are getting lost in.
In response to the matter, Assistant County Commissioner Nakuru Municipality Catherine Njoroge said that the matter has been raised by several quarters and the government will take proactive measures to ensure that the funds get to the old and not to the pockets of individuals.
