Juma said the challenges need to be addressed urgently, as they slow down port operations.

Speaking in Mombasa on Monday, Juma noted that operations were very slow in some sections of the port, due to mechanical breakdowns.

"The current system of operations at the port is inefficient. There is need for the government to reinforce the port equipment at both the yards and berths in order to hasten loading and vessel discharges,” said Salim.

He urged the government to look into frequent mechanical failures experienced both in the Kilindini Water Front Automated Terminals Operating system and the Simba system.
