Athi River town based pastor Lydia Wairimu based has urged National Government to reconsider its stand and review requirements placed for priesthood practice and church operations in the country.

Addressing press in Athi River town yesterday, Lydia Wairimu, claimed that conditions set by government for individuals to practice and operate in the industry were very many and demanding.

Pastor Wairimu said as much as she supports the government in its bid and efforts in regulating the industry, only a handful of men and women of cloth would meet all the requirements as stipulated by both the office of the Attorney General and Societies Registra.

She argued that most priests, pastors and bishops among other Kenyans in various positions in the church industry were reformed criminals and therefore, were not able to meet certain requirements such as letters of good conducts.

"Some of these conditions and requirements are just too tough all to be met by those with a vocation to be or already in the industry since most of the practicing pastors are reformed criminals," said Wairimu.

The pastor said it was not easy for such priests to be cleared by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to get letters of good conduct due to bad criminal records.

Wairimu added that government needs to review the requirements to make them fair and realistic arguing that no angels would come to heaven to preach the Gospel to Kenyans.

According to her, no living human being is a saint stating that all have sinned before God and therefore need not to judge or treat others unfairly or harshly.

She however called on all practicing men and women of clothes to be morally upright, abide by the Kenyan law and act as role models to those they lead in their respective churches noting that not all priests were bad, but handful who have made the government come up with the tough conditions.
