The government has been challenged to consider supporting schools in infrastructural development to accommodate the high number of learners joining schools following the commencement of free primary education.

Many schools continue to suffer from inadequate classrooms, desks among other learning facilities which are very key in learning setup.

As part of mechanisms to keep the learners in school, some school head teachers have been forced use trees as classrooms and stones as desks for the learners.

Kotuga Primary School in Suna West Sub County is among the schools in the region where class one pupils have been forced to take their learning under a tree while class five and six have been combined in one classroom and have to learn in shifts.

The school head teacher Mr. John Matira says the school faces a lot of challenges including inadequate classrooms and desks, lack of office among other challenges.

He said some of the learners at Kotuga Primary School are taking their studies under trees.
